Paul C. Matadeen
Paul Matadeen is a junior at the University of Missouri at Columbia. There, he is working towards his a broadcast journalism degree, graduating in June 2005. Paul began in broadcasting as an elementary school student. He stumbled into television when his teacher announced she was going to begin producing the school's morning anouncements on TV. Paul later worked on the print side in junior high. He was a feature writer for the Bair Middle School Gazette.
In high school, Paul moved back to television as a feature reporter. He also began working for a kids' show called "By Kids For Kids" at WPLG-TV, the ABC affiliate in Miami. While producing and co-hosting the talk show about student issues, Paul also wrote education features for the Sun-Sentinel(story archive) newspaper in Fort Lauderdale.
Paul began as a fill-in reporter for KOMU-TV (NBC)(story archive) when he moved more than a thousand miles away to college at the University of Missouri. There, he learned about live news production, the editorial intracracies of a local newsroom, and how to relate to people in the community as a reporter.
After sophomore year at Missouri, Paul landed a summer job with the Fox News Channel as the Miami Bureau Coordinator. There, he got the chance to produce stories about national issues and interview politicians. He says that is what fueled his interest in politics.
Paul has since continued his pursuit of journalism through classes and working as a freelance staffer for Fox News. His most recent FNC job was as a staffer/intern/guest producer during the 2004 Iowa Caucuses. He is also excited to learn about state government and radio from the inside out while at MDN.
Outside of work, Paul is usually working on J.C. Rocks Television, a Christian music television show he produces and webcasts to students nationwide. Paul is also involved with The Rock, a campus church for young adults at Mizzou and Columbia. Paul says his beliefs as a Christian are what drive him to pursue excellence and maintain a high ethic while in his field. He says that as a Christian, he must put others first, always.
